very rough idle when could and burns oil.
Hi there everyone.
When I start my car up, it idles very rough and irradically. It also burns quite a bit of oil. When the engine starts to warm up, idle goes to normal and oil stops
burning.
Can anyone out there please help me out.
84 camaro, 305.
thanx.

sounds to me like you need new valve seals . they are a p.i.t.a. if you have
a.i.r. and smog pump . if you are not required to have them this would be a great time to put them in the trash can and install headers , also new roller tip rockers , 1.6 ratio is good . when you get the valve covers off clean oil sludge from inside covers and cylinder head . pay attention to drain holes on front and rear of cylinder heads , they allow oil to drain back to oil pan . make sure they are all open and clear . oil sludge is dirty and messy . [ lots of old newspapers under car ] will not go into changing seals , haynes and chilton books do a fair job of this , also on valve adj. . i also would install new umbrella seals on all valve stems . they are cheap and could not hurt . also an oil change with a can of eng. flush prior to change . this helped me out , and many others i am sure . lots of luck . uncle tom

Thanx man.
I had a fealing it would be the valve stem seals.
Do you think it might also be a vaccum problem as well?
I know that oil burning on startup is most likeley valve stem seals, but what about the bad idle. It seams as though it is running super rich at startup.
Idle goes up and normalises as the engine warms up.
thanx
