car wont stay alive cold

alright, well recently i have been having a problem where when cold, i would try to start it but it would idle very low and rough, sometimes stalling out. i would have to shut it down and restart it to get the idle correct (maybe). but one time it wouldnt do it no matter how much i started it, so i started, kept my foot on the gas and let the engine warm up to operating temp. then i shut it down, triedagain and allwas fine.

I figured itwas my coolant temp sensor (the one for the ecm below the throttle body) so i swapped it out and it was starting fine for 3 days. (btw my idle was much higher than it should have been after swapping it, so i adjusted my tps and throttle accordingly.) but today i came out of work and tried to start it and it would die right away. it wouldnt even try. it would turn over and rev a little bit and gone, no laboring. so again i had to start it and keep my foot on the gas and warm it up before it would start correctly.

also, i have never had a cold start switch. was no good and cut it off to see if i could wire a manual switch to the injector, which just ended up blowin an importantfuse when i would use it, so just left it. but it still started fine for months even without that injector, it just had to crank a few more times. but this problem definately isnt because of the cold start injector.

anyone?

Can we assume you have a TPI of the '85-'88 vintage?

Re: car wont stay alive cold

im havin sort of the same prob, sorry to charm in but, i just put a 350 TPI remanufactured engine in to the same year car and model as yours slowdeath. i put a prom adapter in from tpiparts because it was orignally a 305 TPI, i put in a 350 esc module. and i hav to put my foot on the gas until it is at a good idle that i can put it in gear. i dont know if i forgot to tell tpiparts that my car has a cold start injector or what. im thinking of sending them a email asking them about the prom adapter they sent me. thanks and sorry again for charming in.
