Water Pump Question

Hey all,

I'm building a 350 and was wondering whether to put a long or short water pump on. Thanks for the help,

Tony

well unless you plan on running the old school driver side alternator setup that was before 1969 then you need to get a normal everyday common long pump

i assume you are talking about SBC here

this is a short pump i have laying around here for SBC:

and here are pics from the internet of a car with its original short pump setup

they were installed from factory only on:

68-older cars
72-older trucks
and 74 or 75-older vettes

Yeah, its a SBC. And whichever is the simplest to build. I'm assuming that's still the long pump?

Also, would using a high-flow pump cause any problems?

Your car, like every car built since 1969 that isn't a Corvette, came with a long water pump. If you changed to a short pump, you'd have to replace all your accessories and mounting brackets to match.

The alternator went back to the drivers side on serpentine belt setups.
