high rpm
high rpm
I have an 84 z28 camaro. 5.0 H.O rochester quadrajeti replaced the carb with a refurb quadrajet.
the carb came from an olds 307. 5.0. buddy didnt need it after he found out his block was cracked.
no problems with interchangability.
car runs like a bat out of hell( for what it is) untll about 4500 then it falls on its face....hard......its like a bog.. no backfire.
i replaced cap/rotor, plugs/wires/pump/filter.
vacuum is all hooked up right to my knowledge
i installed a fuel regulator.
its not too much fuel.... when i back off the fuel pressure it stalls at lower rpms that tells me it wasnt getting to much fuel.
ive ruled out all possibilities that it could be and im certain my fuel system cant keep up with my motor/carb or its a mixture problem ar high rpms something is too much either fuel or air. the secondaries are opening
what are my options?
can i tune the carb to not deliver so much fuel? or is it better to get a high volume fuel pump? a 305 oem fuel pump should deliver enough fuel for my set up its not radical....not to the point to where i need a high volume pump?!?!?!?!?.........would a fatter fuel line help?
ive never tuned a carb before so i dont know what to adjust to lean it out....
but im thinking that i need to back of the fuel jets......
i hope someone knows what thier doing because obviously my car is telling me i dont!!!!!

Definetly sounds like its going fuel starved, maybe you've got some foriegn body in the gas tank. I've got a similar problem, its intermittent, but I get the same thing every couple weeks, I'll go fuel starved at WOT, can't support much beyond 4000rpm. New pump and filter makes it sound like its either something in the carb, or something in the tank.
well....ive seen the light.......someone informed me that in 1984 they had a recall on the fuel system on the h.o camaro......their fuel system wasnt good enough to supply enouh fuel under load.......its looking like i need to get an in tank fuel pump........i think im gonna try getting a high output fuel pump to bolt on the block before i go pulling the tank....i realy dont want to have to do that.....

yeah mine loses power around 3,800 to 4,000.
I have a pump on the block (1 in, 1 out, no return) but the one in the tank is not pluged in anymore i have to wire it up to see if it still works.
I think it was unpluged when the car was converted to RHD back in 87, because most of the wireing was striped then.
If you are going to run both tank and block pump the block one MUST have a return line or the tank one will burn out. So it will run great for a little while then when the "in tank" pump dies you will have the same power loss that i have atm.

yea i have no idea......i think i might try playing with the carb before i go swimming in the gas tank....i dont want to do that at all.........ive reas if the secondary air valves open too much that it causes turbulence in the secondaries causing the problem im having.......ill figure it out
