Ignition control module

I am having troubles with my ignition control module. I have to replace it about every 3 months or so, and when i take them in to have them tested, they tell me they are still ok. My rpm gauge wont move and it wont start, thats when i know i need to replace the module. I have a stock ignition except for an MSD coil. I have tried the Accel module, but it didnt last as long as the cheapos from advanced auto. Please help!!

Have you tried checking the pickup coil?

No I have not. How do you determine if it is the pickup coil? Can an auto store test it to see if it is bad?

If you had an intermittent open circuit in the pickup coil, everything could be fine for a while until it decided to open, and you'd be dead in the water. Then when you disturb things to replace the module, it makes contact again and works for a while. In the meantime, there's nothing wrong with the modules you removed.

I'm not sure how much pickup coils cost, but rather than try to test an intermittently bad one, I'd try just replacing it.

OK thanks. I will try replacing my pickup coil and see if i have any problems in the future. Just curious, but is there anything else that could cause this problem other than the pickup coil?
