383 stroker not performing
just recenlty installed a 383 strkr in my 91 camaro, it has 100 miles on it, the motor feels like it has lots of power but just not performing it well.. i adjusted the timing, rebuilt the carb, but still feels like its missing out atleast 100 hp. i tighten the rockers 0 lash and 3/4 turn, but when i take the car up to 4000rpms i can hear the rockers a lil.. any help with highly b appreciated.. thank u ..

Re: 383 stroker not performing
maybe you wiped a cam already? The beak in is very critical and the right oil is needed. of course thats if its a flat tappet not a roller. whats your total timing? Do you have the right size piston ring on the pistons? Take a look at whats going on and tell us a little more about it.

And some motor specs, not all 383's are created equal.
What's in it? Cam, heads, intake, exhaust, etc etc?

Re: 383 stroker not performing
with mismatched parts is it very easy to make a 383 that has less power that a properly spec'd 350.
in the induction tuned properly?

Hey bud, like the others have said, much more data needed to help you out.
If you can tell us the following it would help a LOT:
Cam - manufacturer and grind and/or specs for duration, lift, lobe separating angle, type - hydraulic roller?
Rockers - type and ratio
Valve springs
What heads are you running?
Pistons
Crank
Rods
Intake
Induction - you said carb - which
Tranny - assume T5 in your sig?
You said that it is not performing well. Is this the 'butt dyno'? Do you have any empirical data such as dyno, dragstrip timeslips or performance meter data (Tazzo, G-Tech etc.)?
Cheers!

Re: 383 stroker not performing
Whoa, ok that's messy here.
194 heads - not sure what these are, i'm unfamiliar with them. Got any specs or info? I see they are 283 heads from the mid '60s. This right?
What are they from? Final CR ratio of motor?
Flat top pistons?
ok, cs280h-10 is a magnum 280 hydraulic flat tappet. 230/230, .480" lift on a 110LSA.
contender - high rise dual plane, 0-7200RPM. Probably about like the performer RPM.
I'm really unfamiliar with those heads, they might be holding you back a lot...
So it seems ok up to 4000RPM, then it craps out? I'd guess that you flattened a lobe on the cam if you can hear the lifters, and it's got 100 miles on it.

Re: 383 stroker not performing
Well, no need to PM me, i'm posting in your thread here.
You still haven't given much info as to what's wrong. Does it stumble? Stutter? Just acts really weak? Puff black smoke while taking off? Excessively low oil pressure? Really low vacuum? ANYTHING that you noticed?
Give me some specs on those heads. Valve size, chamber size, port size, flow rate? I'm guessing they're holding you back, but if it gets weaker as the car warms up, then we can't totally blame the heads.
