car smokin

ok so yesterday when i started my car i noticed a little puff of smoke from the exhaust. so i think ok not that big of a deal, well this morning it was a bigger puff of smoke. then this afternoon i started it and a big puff of smoke came out and then a steady stream of smoke out the exhaust.

so i'm guessing my valve seals are gone, or maybe the rings or both. now i dont know what to do. i asked a friend and was advised to go buy a new engine since rebuilding the heads would be real expensive.

anybody have any idea how much it will cost to have new valve seals done? the motor sat for a few years but ran for 2 weeks before it did this. i have another 305 in pieces but those heads have been sitting fo a while too. what should i do? find a new motor or new heads instead of rebuilding mine. i have verry little money so this really sucks, i only have a few hundred bucks to get this problem fixed so i cant afford to just slap one thing in and hope it works. and another motor swap would suck *** since i'm so busy right now.

i'f anybodys got an idea on the cheapest way to fix the problem let me know

Re: car smokin

you'll need 2 sets it looks like, 16 valves, only 8 o rings in the pic set. get a compression tester and check all the cylinders compression, when you find a low one, squirt an ounce or so of motor oil in the cylinder and retest, if the compression rises you have worn piston rings and valve seals won't help a thing.

Re: car smokin

i'll do a compression test on wensday since i have off. i added some stop leek and it seems to have fixed the problem so i dont think its the rings, hopefuly. i'll just keep an eye on my oil pressure and hopefuly it can last long enough that i can save up some more money and just get my other set of heads i have rebuilt and throw them and my performer intake on the motor.
