I'm getting an aftermarket canister but the best place for me to mount it is near the heater box under the hood. Will that be a problem? Also, should I remove the stock orb if I go with an aftermarket one?

Despite what you may have heard elsewhere, length doesn't matter - At least in this case.

Many factory installations place the canister in some rather remote locations.
