OK the fun begins HELP
OK the fun begins HELP
Ok after years of redoing my 89 GTA the fun begins. This has been a long project. (5 years) I finally have everything back together and have a few problems right off. Almost everything on the car is new . Engine, trans and all bolt on stuff, I put an adjustable fuel reg. on and when I turn the key on I hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds in the back. Thats OK but the gauge on the fuel rail only reads 25lbs. I turned the adjustment screw in a long ways and it only goes to 28lbs. Is that normal for a reading with the engine off? Next problem when I turn the key the starter does not do anything. I hear the relay in the car click and my gauge go up but nothing.Hear again new battery fully charged, new starter. Where should I start? Almost seems like a neutral safty switch problem ? I tried moving the shifter back and forth and tried it in neutral no good. Does it matter which side of the starter the small wire goes? There are two terminals right across from each other does it matter? I can see there is going to be alot of small gremlins to work out as I go. Any help is welcome. Thanks

Yep, I changed to the other terminal and she turned right over.I started the motor for anbout 10 seconds and shut it right off. No oil pressure reading on the gauge. When I checked the fuel pressure reading on the gauge it was reading 45lbs. So that reading goes up for sure when the engine starts. Sat. I will have to see why I have no oil pressure.

If you really want to know what the oil pressure is then the best way is to temporarily hook a mech gauge to it.

Static fuel pressure should be around 42 stock.
Is this your initial startup after the build? If so, you could have air in the fuel system causing low readings and your oil pressure may be nothing to worry about since you'll need to fill your oil filter and get the oil flowing through the system.
On my initial startup I had no oil pressure for about 30 seconds. I was crapping my pants.

Agreed. Just as a data point, when I turn the key on my '89 GTA, the fuel pressure rapidly climbs to the full reading (42, 46 psi, can't remember what it's set at right now). So if yours shows only partial pressure again, it's not "normal".
