Oxygen sensor lean code 44
I have a 1986 z28 camaro with the L64 carbarated 305 with the 700R4 and i have a check engine code for O2 sensor lean what does this mean ? Does this mean the engine is actully runing lean or does this mean the o2 sensor is bad? Also when i go to start the car it doesnt want to stay runing untill its warmed up and its about 80 deg's here so i know its not to cold it has new plugs wires cap rotor new carb and choke new fuel filter im confused any info would be greatly apricated thank you

im having exact same problem on my 1986 trans am 305.
takes 2-4 tries for t to stay running and will have rough idle till it warms up then everything is fien except for soem hesitation in drive

Heh, that's LG4, not l64.
The o2 sensor is probably bad. Have a look at it and see if the wire is even still attached properly.
As for the cold start, it's probably a maladjusted choke.

Just read up on how to adjust it. And see about the idle mixture. Is yours CC?

Yes i ment LG4 but i made a typo any how the choke is adjusted properly its closed when cold and opens when warm just like it should. And as for the O2 sensor showing a code 44 lean you think its a bad O2 sensor could it also be that maybe say the fuel pump is going out which is making the sensor see a lean condition i know if an O2 sensor doesnt have enough voltage it can send a lean signal but i also know sometimes when they go out the computer will make the car run rich as well, Ive also checked the O2 sensor and wiring and its all pluged in and intacked

Re: Oxygen sensor lean code 44
Yes it could be the O2 sensor.
No it is not likely to be the fuel pump. Fuel pumps don't typically act like they're "going out"; they tend to either work, or not. In any case, a fuel delivery problem in a carbed car will typically show up as, the car idles and just cruises around fine; but then when you romp on it, it'll run fine through 1st gear, fine through 2nd, and then all of a sudden fall flat on its face halfway through 3rd, or some similar pattern.
The computer in your car isn't smart enough to figure out "the such-and-such is bad, replace it". Rather, what it's telling you by way of that code, is that it THINKS it's making the mixture richer by delivering more fuel, but it never sees a "rich" indication coming back from the sensor when it's supposed to. So the problem could be the sensor, or it could be the carb not delivering the fuel, or a few other things. Those 2 would be the most common though.
Change the sensor first, reset the computer to clear the code, and go from there. Duplicate the driving conditions that made the light turn on and see if it comes on again.

Re: Oxygen sensor lean code 44
cc means computer controlled because some carbs came computer controlled and some not. your car doesnt have a choke.
