Looking for a 3rd gen, advice please
Looking for a 3rd gen, advice please
All right, I am new to thirdgen.org, but am an active member over at camaroz28.com. I am looking to pick up a third gen camaro to build into a drag car and was wondering what you third gen guys would recommend. I plan on using a carb, so as far as picking up a TBI or TPI car, thats irrelevant. I am thinking about an early third gen.
Motor will probably be a 350 to begin with. Would you recommend picking up a factory 350 car with motor still intact and working from there, or going just getting a chassis and grabbing another 350. It doesn't have to be a camaro motor.
Basically any sort of third gen should work for me correct? If I can find one with a 350 I'll work with that block, otherwise I'll grab a motor from somewhere else.
Sorry for the long, randomish post. All help is appreciated, as well as all of your suggestions on engine/transmission combinations.
BTW car wouldn't really be competitive, more a toy for myself that I'd like to hit 12's with, then move on from there.

Re: Looking for a 3rd gen, advice please
well if your gonna be building a drag car i would say just pick up a nice roller just find the cheapest car you can with a good body. the motor, trans, and interior probably wont be used so why bother paying for them you can pick up a decent body for less then 500 bucks.
as for the drivetrain its all personal choice but usualy a nice crate motor will be the simplest solution. it all depends on what you want from the car, if you want a 12 second car you can still drive on the street thats one thing but if your looking for a single digit monster i would have to say the cheapest route is to just buy one used. but like i said there are many ways to go in the end its up to you.
