Bowtie block help
Bowtie block help
The motor in my camaro doesnt have a dip stick hole. I was puzzled when i discovered this. I didnt build the motor so i wasnt aware of what block they used so i didnt know at the time. Anywho.....I ran the casting number 10051184 and it came up as a bowtie block. When I was reading about it it said that the oil dipstick hole is not drilled. why not?? I hate the fact i cant check my oil. Arnt there SBC oil pans that have the dipstick hole right in the pan? There is a aftermarket Mildon 7qt pan on it now so i'd like to replace it with one simular Any suggestion?? Thanks

Is it driver's side only, or does it have the dipstick boss on both sides?
I thought some early Nova pans had the dipstick directly to the pan, but a search on Summit didn't show any such part.
Maybe it's time to go dry sump. . .

Re: Bowtie block help
I had the car on a lift and you can see on the passenger side of the block there is a bulge where the oil dipstick would go into but no hole is drilled. I've never ran anything with a dry sump set up. Are they good for running on the street, how exactly do you hook it up and what all would i need??

Re: Bowtie block help
why couldnt you just drill it? not like it is going to be rocket science... you would just need to do a test run you know add exactly 7 quarts and see where it comes up on the dip stick then add another 3/4 quart for oil filter and your golden right?
