INSTRUMENT CLUSTER UPRADE
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER UPRADE
I HAVE A 86 CAMARO 'PLAIN', 305 CARB,700R4, THAT I HAVE UPGRADED TO THE 145 MPH SPEEDO, TACH AND GAGES. 'ALL' OF THE OEM CLUSTER, WORKED PRIOR TO UPGRADE, BUT ALL DID NOT, AFTER THE SWAP OUT. MY FUEL GAGE STAYS PEGGED OUT ON FULL. TRIED 2 OTHER KNOWN GOOD FG'S, AND SAME RESULT! THE OEM 'BIG' FUEL GAGE WORKED FINE, IS THERE A DIFFERENCE IN THE FUEL SENDING UNITS OR A MOD THAT I'M UNAWARE...HELP, BOYZ GONNA RUN OUTTA GAS SOONER OR LATER
THANKS!

THANKS!

Re: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER UPRADE
First lose the CAPS.
The fuel gauge reads Full when it sees 90 ohms or more. If it stays on full then there must be an open circuit somewhere from the sending unit to the cluster. Since you changed the cluster that's where I start looking. Remove the cluster and reinstall it making sure to seat the 2 connectors properly.
If those connectors are not making good contacts the gauges will do crazy things.
Good Luck
