HEI distributor ECM bypass
ok , i,ve done a few searches but had no luck.
I was talking to a mechanic today & he said I could jump the A to the C terminal on the dist. to bypass the ECM . then buy an advance kit for the dist. & use it for my carb setup.
I didnt have time to ask specifics so I have 2 questions.
1) do I wire the 2 together b4 the dist or jump 1 to the other in the dist. and if so which one to which
2) does anyone have the part # of the kit i would need for the advance ?
thanks in advance , Mike
it is an l98 going to carb . trying to go on a budget .

Here's the "kit" you need to turn a computer-controlled distributor into a mechanically controlled one.

I don't think any jumpering of any terminals needs to be done. Removing the ECM and the light bulb will pretty much take care of all that.

Hey, they're running a special on that kit, with black instead of red... about $50 difference...

Re: HEI distributor ECM bypass
that kit looks just like a distributor
!
I was told it is possible to convert my distributor to run w/out the ECM by jumping those 2 wires and installing an advance kit in my distributor for about 10 -15 bucks .
I only got a vague description because I was 300 miles from home & pressed for time .
Not sure if it can be done thats why I am asking. if not just say so , as I have already priced distributors ,and that is a good deal so I will jump on that if I have to .
thanks Mike

There's no "advance kit" that can be installed in your distributor. You need to replace the distributor.

There's no such thing as a "kit" that does that, especially not for $10-15; except maybe a junkyard distributor. Whoever told you that, if that was in fact what they said, is a highly unreliable source.
So I guess if you thought the kit was something besides a complete distributor, then the good news for you is, you need a complete distributor. Sorry, I didn't realize that you didn't realize that.
But yeah that's a pretty decent deal for a whole brand-new distributor with a somewhat performance-oriented setup in it.
