tranny slipping when warm??

My car has 142K on it. The owner I bought it from said the trans has never been rebuilt. When i get in the car and let it run for a few minuts in the morning it shifts absolutly wonderfull and the car has a **** load of power, I can nail it and it will shift to second burning rubber leaving 40-50 foot marks.

But once it gets all the way to operating temp I can nail it from a stop and im lucky if it breaks the tires loose for more than 5 ft and the shifts get VERY VERY SLOOOOOW once it is warm.

Can this be corrected with a shift kit or am I looking at rebuild time?

Re: tranny slipping when warm??

Is there a particular range where the slippage is more evident? Does is still shift softly when manually shifted through the ranges?

Testing the line pressure when hot would be a good idea. Make sure the pressure in manual ranges rises about 90-100 PSI in manual 2 and 1. Also make sure the line pressue in PARK/OD/DRIVE increases to about 150 PSIG as the TV is pulled.

Depending upon your results, you may or may not be looking at some new parts.
