Re: poly locks backing off?

Happens alot.

Especially to people that turn the nut to wherever they think it should be, and then think they're going to tighten the set screw tight enough to lock them in place.

The correct way to do those is to tighten them ALMOST to where you want them, maybe 1/16 - 1/8 turn loose; tighten the allen by itself; then go back, and with a box-end 5/8" and the allen, tighten the nut and the set screw TOGETHER.

Re: poly locks backing off?

Exactly what Sofa said. Do them that way and they'll never back off.

Re: poly locks backing off?

dont tighten it to the point you strip or snap the rocker stud.. obviously.. but if you are going at it, and theres more to turn, but the lock wont turn, back off and try again..

i promise you, you will cry when you snap a stud and dont have another stud and poly lock on hand.. its a horrible feeling of defeat.. lol

just use your good judgement

Re: poly locks backing off?

hey guys i seem to be having the same problem. We did the valve lash about 5 times today and still as soon as the engine gets running they just loosen themselves up really fast. SO i guess ill try doing them like that tomorrow. Lets just hope nothing broke when i was driving it when they loosened up....

Re: poly locks backing off?

when you say they loosen, do they actually get loose?? like you can turn them by hand(overexaggeration) or are they still tight and just tapping??

if they really get loose then its just a locking problem.. but if they are still tight and tapping, then you have problems..

Re: poly locks backing off?

yeah figured out that this is rthe last tiem i listen to anyone else when it comes to my own ****ing car. when they did the lash they set it at TDC #1 then only rotated the crank half a revolution not 1 full revolution so the cylinders we were doing were in mid stroke when we tightend them. i was busy doing other **** so i didnt notice. now i know.
