hey guys i was just wondering how much hp/torque/rpm cane a eagle cast steel 400 sbc take before breaking. just a estimated guess because i have a guy that will sell me a 400 block cheap but it doesnt have a crank. thanxs

I think those are rated at around 500HP, or around 6000RPM or something of that nature. It's a mid of the line piece IIRC.

Sonix is right. I have seen people pushing 600 with there 383 (same crank diffrent journal size). Eagle rates them at 500, they will take more but you never know how much and dont want to trash the rest of the motor finding out.

awesome thats about the numbers i was hoping for, about 500hp would be just about as much as i would need. although they say too much horsepower is almost enough. thanxs guys

I would worry more about the stock block splitting in two. Seems the way they always end up when extremes are pushed.

Not a bad idea but you should be fine if you use quality fasteners on the mains. Im just saying the block will most likely go before the crank.

I would invest in some good rods to handle that amount of power, i think the stock block would be fine if its preped right and definitley use good fasteners. you should be fine.

thanxs guys for the help and yes i plan to use good internals just a stock block so i was just a little worried about the crank. nothing is set in stone yet about the 400 so we shall see what happens.
