Answer needed fast, will my power steering pump burn up running it dry?

My power steering just pissed out all of the fluid and now i spend just as much on power steering fluid as gas but i still have to go to work. Q: will my power steering pump burn up if theres very very little fluid in it? like im talking maybe a couple of oz. in it, but i might be over exadurating tho.

If it was the power steering pump that leaked all the fluid, then it already needs to be replaced.

If your pump leaks the fluid. You could screw up your gear box. No fluid means steering gear box goes bad. Ask me how I know. fluid also serves as a lubricant.

Just like any of the other systems in your car which require oil as a lubricant, if there is no oil in it, some type of damage will be the result. Granted, I have fixed cars where they had been running the power steering pump until it was dry and then adding oil for months until they brought it in for repair, fixed the leak, and no problems. I have also had them run dry a single time and the pump made noise after the leak was repaired.

So the real question is, are you a gambling man?

Apeiron already stated that its possibly bad to begin with.

What do you have to lose? Besides your job, that is..

I had one spring a leak in a cooling line before (different car). Wow did that thing squeal after the fluid dropped too low. Apparently I lost that gamble. I had to replace the pump.
