"key on" to coil voltage
I've been having issues d trying to fire up an engine swap, 406SBC with TPI into a 93 Caprice wagon.
It wouldn't fire up, although it did last year with a 350 on the same wiring harness.
I couldn't get a inductance type timing light to go off to check the base timing. Checked the light, it worked on my wife's car.
NEW CAP, ROTOR AND COIL IN PLACE no fire
I'm checking the wiring.
WITH THE KEY ON, I was expecting 12 volts to be found on the thick pink wire coming from ignition switch to the coil. With a multimeter in place, disconnecting the pink wire from the coil and measuring voltage passing through to ground.... I got nothing.
Shouldn't I have 12 volts there?
Is this not the primary power feed to the coil?

Re: "key on" to coil voltage
Agreed- you should have 12V at the big pink coil wire whenever the ignition is turned on. I do not believe this voltage is dependent on the computer- just the ignition switch being on.

The ignition "Hot At All Times" feed is through a fusable link at the Starter.
Assuming there's no wiring problems and the ignition switch is good.
