How do I clean Aluminum Heads?

If I want to clean my aluminum heads myself what is the best stuff to use on them?

Also, I have a dowel pin stuck in one of the heads. Is there an easy way to get it out?

Thanks in Advance,
Jay

I use carb cleaner for everything, it works wonders, and any excess residue burns right off.

Specifically though, are you talking about the outside of the heads, or inside, near the springs and valves?

oh, dowel pin stuck on AL head.. ouch.. i would get a vise grip, preferably a HUGE one, clamp that bastard down REAL good and twist and pull.. wd40 wouldnt hurt either.. JUST DONT SCRATCH THE HEADS.. i'm assuming its a dowel on the flat side.. thats the only dowel i know of..

oh ya, brake cleaner works pretty good.. IIRC, it doesnt leave any film or residue..

Re: How do I clean Aluminum Heads?

I got the dowel pin out with some vise grips and PB Blaster.

I am really just concerned with cleaning the outside of the heads?

Thank again,
Jay

If the heads are bare wait until the wife goes out shopping and run them through the dishwasher. . .

Barring that, some hot soapy water and a good rinse should do the trick.
