Why or Why not switch to carb

as some or most or all of you already know if you've read any of my threads, that im gonna go with cam headers intake ignition cold air somehow. A light bulb came on BIG time about ten minutes ago. Why go through ALL the trouble of learning to tune, tune, and tune and tune tune tune, when i could just do an efi to carb conversion and go?? went to tech artical on swappin efi to carb and was impressed on how doable it seems. SO..my question..why or why not switch from tbi to carb??

Re: Why or Why not switch to carb

have you ever tuned a carb? no well you will have to learn how to do that just like tuning EFI

so it is your choice... you could by a carb and leave it as is and leave HP on the table and drivability and do you same thing with the EFI set up you already have give it a half *** tune and leave HP on the table

it will come down to your personal preference no one can tell you which one you will like more

Re: Why or Why not switch to carb

that is true but isnt tuning a carb alot easier than efi?? its just air/fuel timing isnt it? with efi you have all the electricals

Re: Why or Why not switch to carb

if you had a mpfi i would stay with it. but the tbi is useless. i have carbs on everything i drive. i switched my truck to carb and feels more powerfull due to the slightly larger cam but the same fuel milage. but if you had a complete vortec engine or ls1 with good fuel injection you can get your own computer and tune it.

Re: Why or Why not switch to carb

A few reasons why you should switch to carb

-WAYYYY cheaper than learning/buying things to tune an EFI for max efficiency.

-Power gains over the TBI would be very nice, especially after heads and cam

-Easy to tune compared to FI. Just spend a few weeks reading up, get a tuning manual, etc. It might seem intimidating at first, but I assure you, it is much easier than you think. (Take it from me, I am new to carbs too)

-Engine bay looks cleaner

A few reasons why you might not want to switch to carb

-Emissions, good luck passing them unless you have a stock cam. Anything decent in the cam department, you are going to either get really creative with tuning, or having a local shop "pass" it for you...at a cost.

-Mileage, you will see losses in mileage if you are carbureting for power

Re: Why or Why not switch to carb

ok that sounds comparing for sure. ive heard both sides and both sides on efi tuning to carb tuning. both have intimidating in their description so i guess both are gonna be a gamble. im still not quite self assured what i wanna do. anymore comments? anyone?
