Timming Problem ? error code 33
Timming Problem ? error code 33
I have a 1992 RS 3.1. The car acts as thought is has a timming problem. I checked the error code, code 33 came up . I replaced the MAP sensor but to no avail. The car starts fine bet when you accelerate it hesitates and misses. I changed the fuel filter, checked for vacume leak, had the fuel injectors cleaned and Emptyed the gass tank to make sure there was not some baf fuel. Amy suggestons

I had a similar problem after I changed the dist. The reluctor was out of phase with the magetic pickup @ #1 post. Major back firing and the heat generated in the module would cause the computer to cut the fuel off.

Any recent work....Dist cap, rotor, module? What is code 33 telling you?

Well...It's a long shot..but it was worth it for me.
-Buy a new cap and rotor. Use the old one and cut slot at the #1 post wide enough so you can see through on each side of the post. You need to do this so you can see the rotor as it sweeps past the post with the engine running.
-Install the slotted cap and start the engine with the timing electrical plug disconnected.
-Shine your timing light in the slot. The timing should fire directly on the post
If it's not then you have an out of phase issue between the reluctor and the magnet. The reluctor is the star with 6 points on it. The maget connects to the module by two wires.
or.... Pull the distributor out and look at it closer...if it's off at all, you will be able to see it
Fixing it !! well ..you could buy a new distributor or fix the one you have by slotting the holes the hold the magnet in place!
