Need a new alternator which one to buy?
I am ready to get my car on the road but I need a new alternator. I have a 355 and a 50,000 volt coil if that matters. How high of an amp should I go for a new alternator ??

When my '83 needed a new alternator I went with a 105 amp.She has all power options(windows, locks, driver's seat and antenna)and I have gone to the factory dual fan setup.I looked up the what would be compatible(single groove pulley-which can be swapped and mounting position). You also go with the newer 140 amp models with some modification. The price difference on the ones I looked at was very little so it made since to upgrade.

Power wipers and high beams draw some decent current. I had a 37A on it when I picked up my car, ran fine though.... If you don't have a stereo, pick up what ever is in stock, it won't matter much.
I swapped to a 140A version of the CS144. Look up my thread, it's pretty detailed. It shows how to swap to that, it's easier on the V-belt cars, less modifications than on a serp car. And $50 from the wreckers for 140A? Yep, good deal for me.

All I have really is a aftermaket cd player in the car I was just worried about the higher output coil I have on my car. I want to have strong spark. I guess I will go with the 78amp and call it a day.
