89 GTA - starter keeps going bad

Last year I replaced my starter. It wouldn't crank one day and had to tap it with a hammer while using my remote starter and it ran. I replaced it and now about a year later the same thing happened. (I don't even drive it every day!)

I'm going to put another starter in, but I'm just wondering if this is common and if there's anything I can do to avoid this.

thanks in advance...

Re: 89 GTA - starter keeps going bad

My brother had the same problem on his 94 Blazer with 4.3 Vortec. Anyway he ended up finding out that he had a wire that wasnt hooked up...so it drained (something like that) the starter and he kept having to buy new ones......until he found the wire he was missing the whole time. Dont remember what wire but yeah...it was a wire problem. Thats why when I get my MSD APS Starter $230 3hp motor....I am getting all new wiring and nuts and bolts....Just to make sure.

Anyway I hope someone has more of an answer than me.
