Temp Gauge...

I have a 1991 Camaro Z28. At first start-up the temp gauge shoots all the way up then goes back down. I was told that this is normal. But while driving, it doesn't move at all. Just stays sitting at the bottom. It worked during the winter, but now won't move at all. Is this a problem with the temp gauge? I'm assuming it atleast somewhat works since it shoots up at start up, so what else could be the problem? What is the normal operating temperature for a Camaro?

Re: Temp Gauge...

Make sure the wire is plugged in

Dark green wire, sending unit is in driver's side head between #1 & #3 spark plugs

I think sofakingdom meant passenger side between #5 & #7. When you replace it make sure you drain the coolant first, otherwise you're going to get a very unpleasant face wash.

No, he meant driver side between #1 and #3.

You don't have to drain all the coolant, just enough to lower the level to below the heads.

Re: Temp Gauge...

Passenger side is for the fan switch. Drivers side temp sensor is for the gauge in the dash.
When it grounds out it pegs to full hot.

I stand corrected! I can't believe I made a boneheaded mistake like that. Somebody smack me. I've been a bad monkey.
