Engine won't crank?

Well here is the story. I went out to fire the 87 IROC up on Saturday, nothing. I had it towed to a local mom and pop shop, they changed the bad starter. The new starter now buzzes but the engine won't crank, flywheel turns by hand. They put three different starters on the car, each of which were tested good. The guy even direct wired the battery to the starter...touching positive terminal with the wire buzzes it.

Ideas? Sounds like he just missed something to me.

Is the solenoid engaging?

Re: Engine won't crank?

I'm out to see today. I don't want to pay this shop until the problem is fixed. I still feel it lies within the starter (solenoid). I am almost positive that he threw in these starters but didn't check for contact on the flywheel.

Now say the solenoid is the problem, and he did use three different starters. Could he possibly have mis wired the starter?

Re: Engine won't crank?

Do you have the chip in your ignition key? If you do, it might be worn enough to engage the Vehicle Anti-Theft System, or V.A.T.S. as its commonly known. If you have a spare key, use it and see if the car starts. If the mechaninc used a remote starter switch you can disregard my post, but from the sound of it he didn't. Let us know how it goes.
