Re: TBI Vs. TPI

Its Not Worth Swapping. TPI Looks Better than TBI.. With the Right TBI Tune/Chip you can have a Decent Performer..

This topic comes up all the time and you will get 100 different opinions.
There are people on this board who have had good results with TBI, and there are people who have switched to TPI and never regret it.

Re: TBI Vs. TPI

numbers as to what? hp/tq at what curves? Assuming you have a stock tpi or tpi, you can look at the factory specs. 305 TBI was 170hp?? 305TPI was 205hp??

Once its modded, it depends on what you put on it. Different size runners, heads, boring stuff out, how its tuned, etc etc is different for every single motor.

I can tell you now, even though TPI is not bolted onto my car yet, that TBI is easier to work on.

Re: TBI Vs. TPI

ok. If you go to the main page, and look under specs, or year specific, it will give correct #'s and what rpm range.

Remember them numbers are different because of heads, intake, exhaust manifolds, camshaft, ecm, tuning. All thats really the same is the block and lower assembly.

If you searched I dont see how you missed the 20+ times I've posted the info on the numbers we got when we swapped Dyno Don's old 92 RS from 305 TBI to 305 TPI. Basically it went from 158 RWHP and 220 RWTQ to 178 RWHP and 290 RWTQ, and gained about 1 mile per gallon.
