Need info on HEI distributor?????
My 83 Trans Am has the LG4 305 and the electronic carb that was on it when I got it, which was not the right one, it was missing sensors and stuff. So I swapped an older non-cc q-jet that I had, which has been reworked and balanced.
Well the problem is that the original HEI distributor is computer controlled. So the engine just doesnt run right with it since most all the computer inputs were gone.
I have a new HEI distributor ordered which is a 65K volt unit, and its got adjustable vacuum advance.
I have never had a non-computer controlled HEI distributor before so I know nothing about it or how to set it up.
How do I adjust the vacuum advance for optimum performance, and should i buy one of the re-curve kits for it? Should I waste my time on a re-curve kit when its for a stock 305 engine.
Its due to arrive tomorrow, just in time to get it put in before I go to Detroit Saturday for an F-body Meet & Greet at Kensington Park. Sure will be nice to have a decent running engine for cruising Woodward after the Potluck is over.
