clearence issue with headers
ok so i've lowered my car significantly maybe 3 inches or so all around, i currebtly have hooker shorties, problem is the car is so low my y pipe scrapes, and bottoms out resulting in burned gaskets, i kinda wana go with long tube headers and dual exhaust but the height issue keeps me from doing so, now everyone tells me to just raise the car which i dont wana, i like the way my 17's sit at current height, is there a way i can raise my engine with custome engine mounts to better fit my long headers and if so which will fit best under restricted space, any help is aprecciated thanks in advance

Re: clearence issue with headers
I`m not sure if anyone makes them, generally people want the motor to sit somewhat lower in the bay for a lower center of gravity. Even if someone does make motor mounts that sit the motor higher, or if you fabricate some yourself i would think your gonna have problems with top of the bellhousing hitting the transmission tunnel.

Re: clearence issue with headers
not even the fact that raising the engine is going to reak havoc on the driveshaft angle and the centerline of the rear end as the engine will have to pivot on the tranny crossmember...
the smarter thing to do would be
1 raise the car... unless you plan on racing it in the nextel cup series
2 a custom Y pipe... unless you really feel like making R!cer rigged engine mounts
3 or a CUSTOM Y PIPE... (see smartassed answer above)

Re: clearence issue with headers
a 3" drop will definetly do it to ya.. theres only a couple things that can be done to solve this.. basically
1) raise the car
2) raise the exhaust (cut/reweld tighter to body)

Re: clearence issue with headers
why would you lower a camaro
? my car already sits very low, have to pull in some driveways diagonally. i did a 3" exhuast to my car and certain mudholes in my driveway will cause it to scrape a little. i even tried moving the piper closer and tighter to the car. i helped a little, it better but still sometimes scrapes. i have to be more careful with the aftermarket exhuast then i did with the stock setup. my advice to you is the leave your engine and trans mounts alone, you are begging for trouble with the driveshaft and the angle it meets up with the rear axle. put it back to the way it belongs.

Re: clearence issue with headers
yeah i know i've had celarence issues ever since lowerign the car but i honestly like the way it sits, i have 17's on and they fit very nicely, besides this car isnt like my daily driver i maybe drive it like once a week or even less so how low it is doesnt bother me so much i just would like to improve it without having to raise the car, i might just go into cutting and fabricating a new y pipe to better things. ive tried putting 20's on the car which it did raise the height but the rims r so heavy the car seemed slow, so off they came im kinda thinking about putting air ride suspension, but im unsure if the iroc will look good with it, i 4 sure dont wanna make it appear like a *****, and also i plan on upgrading my rear suspension for better traction so im not sure if air ride will interfere with that neways thanks 4 the tips car is parked, bought some l98 aluminum heads so ima put those in but since the intake is off im porting that while its off so tha should take a while
