Open Element problem

Hello, long-time lurker, first time to start a thread, my name is TJ and I own a 1990 Camaro RS, 305.

Just a few minutes ago I purchased and installed an Open-Element air filter following the tech article on the main site page, I plugged and placed the IAT sensor just to the front of the filter next to if im not mistaken the firewall? Sorry i'm pretty new to cars. Anyway, when I go to turn the car over it just clicks, all the panel lights come up, but it just clicks, or it makes a couple of other weird sounds.

Now, I keep reading that you should place a piece of cardboard between the coils if needed to prevent problems, just in front of the filter there were if I got it right, 2 coils, but I masked them with electrical tape because I did not think that was where I was suppose to put it. Is this my problem, if not could someone please help me out? I can post pics if needed.

Re: Open Element problem

OK, I just went out and tried a couple of tests, it seems I can turn on the lights, but 2 of the front headlights won't come on, and the dash lights get alot dimmer when I do turn them on, Im starting to think I might have left the doors open too long while taking out my interior and drained my battery?

Re: Open Element problem

okay there is something else you have done if the car randomly wont start...

the car will still turn over with the IAT unplugged

or even a problem with the coil it might not start but it will crank...

what exactly did you do... a little hard to follow that last post

well that will defenitly cause a no start condition

Re: Open Element problem

Sorry, I'll try to explain better, I installed an Open element following the tech article in the tech article section, followed it word by word, nothing is touching anything except at the front, where I just placed a piece of cardboard and have some E.Tape on there.

I'm starting to really think it is the battery considering how long I left the doors open and how the interior lights reacted..

Re: Open Element problem

the interior lights are a good indication they draw very little from the battery and if they dim then there defenitly isnt enough to turn over the engine
