Mechanical fuel pump question

For those of you who have switched to an old school mechanical pump for your carb, what did you do with the wires that ran to the electric pump? I'm not sure if I should cut them or just tape them up to the top of the sending unit and call it good. I thought I read a post where you have to hook up a ground wire, but I can't find it in the forums. Maybe I'm way off on this, but it seems like I should be able to just completely remove those 2 wires and leave the sending unit wire intact. Any suggestions would be great.

Re: Mechanical fuel pump question

You'll need to pull the tank and replace the in tank electric pump with a simple carb style pickup.
The pump won't pull through an electric pump - for long.

Re: Mechanical fuel pump question

Yeah, I already dropped the tank, but was planning to modify the sending unit to work for a carb application. Seems like a lot of people do this, so I just wanted to know what they do with the electric fuel pump wires for this mod.

Re: Mechanical fuel pump question

i always just put a piece of 3/8" fuel hose in place of the pump and put the sender back in

no need for a carb sender, no real difference other than the addition of pump wires

works fine

good luck

Re: Mechanical fuel pump question

My original pump was TBI, which I have eliminated already. My question is, what to do with the leftover wires that controlled that pump since I won't need them for the mechanical pump. The wires will just be hanging there inside the tank if I leave them on the sender. I realize they are not needed for the sending unit, but I wanted to see what other people did with the wires.
