Idle problem/choke problem?
Untill last night, I would crank my car and it would idle a little high because of it being cold. After a min or so I would tap the gas and it would come down to normal idle rate. Well last night I cranked her up and let it warm a bit then tried to get it to come down and it didn't. It stayed idling at 1500rpms.
Well I decided to drive it and had to be heavier on the brakes to get it to stop. So after maybe 10mins of driving I pulled over and started fiddling with the carb and the choke to try and get it to lock. I messed with the throttle linkage and the choke and after maybe 15mins of messing with it I powered it down then cranked it back up and it was idling normally.
Today it started idling high again I drove it for maybe 10mins again and I pulled into the garage and hit the accelerator hard in neutral and it kicked it up to about 3500 pretty quick and it finally came down.
Anyone have an idea of why it could be doing this? Could something be holding the throttle linkage back or something wrong with the choke or what? The car is an 87 Camaro with a 305 Carb.

Could be the throttle cable. Easy way to determine that is to disconnect it and see if the idle drops down (you can't drive it like that, of course).
Sounds more like a choke issue, either the choke not coming off, or the fast idle cam not dropping down like it should. The choke thermostat has to have 12 volts going to it or it won't warm up and come off properly - that's a good place to start looking.

Is it ok to keep driving it? I mean I don't see anything wrong other than its idling high. I just turn the car off in gear so that its at its lowest rpm.

If the choke is on or partially on, you're over-richening the mixture. Generally speaking, that's not a good thing.
A sticking throttle cable could be a very dangerous thing.

Re: Idle problem/choke problem?
I figured out the problem. The electric choke connector on the side of the carb broke off. I jimmy rigged it back and its working fine now.

In the future, make sure that your choke light is on while the key is in the on position before you start the engine.

Kinda sounds like it fits into the "the choke thermostat has to have 12 volts going to it or it won't warm up and come off properly" category.
Glad you found the problem and were able to fix it.
