Vent valve

My car has been smelling like gas for a couple of months and I found a recall that might of been it. Turns out it's not what I was hoping for. The dealership told me that my vent valve is leaking. I didn't ask them what that was, but can tell you that I would smell the gas beside my filler spout. Does any one have a clue what this vent valve is?

Re: Vent valve

It's a little plastick thing on top of the gas tank. Have to pull the tank, or at least drop it part way to replace it.

Re: Vent valve

The vent valve itself is not attached to the tank and does not require the tankt to be dropped. I just recently replaced my fuel pump on my 91 RS. The hose is attached to the top of the fuel tank but it runs to the vent valve which is attached to the frame of the car on the drivers side in front of the rear end. You will need to jack the rear of the car up to get the tires off of the ground to have some room to work. The vent valve is plastic and will snap in place to a bracket that is affixed to the frame. The only place that I could find one was through GM and they were around $30. If this is your problem it is very simple to replace. Keep us posted on how this turns out for you.

Re: Vent valve

Mine got broken while my fuel pump was being replaced and ever since then gas comes out of the gas cap if i have a full tank, i guess the tank is building pressure and just spewing it out of the filler neck, im not sure. The dealership that i went to quoted me 50 dollars for a new one.

Re: Vent valve

Yeah I think that they quoted me at $30 or $40. It was $120 for parts and labor! Crazy they think that I am going to pay that to let them do it. When it sounds easy to do at that.
