Another timing question
Why does it say in the Haynes manual not to unplug the four wire EST connector it says to unplug the black and tan wire I have a 1986 305 CC carb. Will it damage anything? Is this how I set it,with the engine off disconnect the four wire EST coming off of the distributor. Start the engine time it to spec turn the engine off reconnect the EST ready to go?

Unplug the flat 4-wire connector, start the engine, set the timing. Shut off the engine, reconnect the flat 4-wire connector, clear the computer code(s), drive happily ever after.
I'm not going to even try to explain why the Haynes manual says what it says.
