Car runs bad at times...
olds 307 carb'd v8...
It runs good at idle, and will rev just great when in park, but when I drive it, it will sturter when I floor it, and even stall sometimes when i punch it...
It leaks at the gasket from intake to carb...other than that, not sure what exactly the problem may be...
Timing? Vacuum issue? Fuel? Carb?

Sounds like over fuel and under ignition. How's your tune-up stuff?

Fresh plugs, used AC Delco plugs...
Wires look good...
I took apart the dist (cap, coil, rotor etc) and everything looked good
It may be the running really rich, but there are so many vacuum plugs etc i dont know if it's rigged up like it should...

Re: Car runs bad at times...
307's used mechanical fuel pump...so yep, no electric here
Re: Car runs bad at times...
I just wanted to be sure you weren't using the electrical without a pressure regulator- I've seen people do that and just dump a ton of fuel down the carb. Check for vacuum leaks and eliminate any you may have. Then, it will be in your timing. Make sure your butterflies are opening properly and that they have springs on them still. If it leaks between the carb and intake, you need to replace that gasket. any vacuum leak makes a huge difference. How about some pics of your setup?

Also, make sure that the pump is removed from the tank....
That can give you problems at higher rpms under load (like you have)

Where do you have your vaccum advance hooked to? And what are you running for initial timing?
Also for your fuel pump. I would:
Also for your fuel pump. I would:
- Leave the in tank pump intact.
- Put a T connector on your send and return lines.
- Hook the third end to your mechanical pump.
- Make sure the pump runs at all times.

OK, I have no return fuel line, I just ran the return fuel into a T connector with the main fuel line.
The vacuum advanced is currently hooked up to the intake manifold, I know this is wrong but I am not sure where to put it on the carb.
I will replace the gasket, and take some pics of the setup

Re: Car runs bad at times...
ha, in the fox world they would think manifold vaccum is right (it don't make sense to me either), i made alot of enemys there trying to explain to them how the vaccum signal works
this could explain why your car falls flat on its face. I'm not very familiar with quadrajets, but generaly you wanna hook the advance low on the carb as to get vaccum (in varying measures) at all times when the engine is running. higher on the carb is "ported" where vaccum is applied under throttled manuevers. generally i would save manifold vaccum for the transmission modulator (if equipped) and PCV.
and i think you caught the right idea (or my idea) about the fuel setup. mainly the idea is that any pressure at the T will return to the tank, and the mechanical pump is free to do its job and keep pressure within reasonable bounds.

Re: Car runs bad at times...
Just got inside from working...
Replaced the gasket and hooked up some vacuum lines to where I would THINK they would go...
However, the car is straight manifolds exhaust and it's 1:30 now so I could not start it up...too loud
I will get some pics of my custom ghetto-rigging tomorrow and see if I fixed the problem...
