new patriot performance 195 aluminum heads/hsr combo!

383 combo coming together...

this is wat i got

1.)patriot performance 195 aluminum heads, 64cc combustion chamberss, 2.02/1.6 valves, vitton seals, 5 angle valve job, cnc bowl blending, upgraded valves, dual spring good for .675 lift roller cam(they flow 260cfm at .500 lift)
2.)ordering HSR and getting billet adjustable regulator
3.)30lb injectors
4.)new speed pro roller lifers
5.) 1.6 proform aluminum extruded roller rockers
6.) GM hot cam (218/228 lift a .500, .525 lift with 1.6rr, 114 lobe)
7.) double roller timing chain blah blah
8.) professional products 58mm TB
9.) build my own shortbock with gapless rings and forged pistons

wat do u think about the combo and what my power output would be about??? im looking for 450hp but i know i would need more cam for more HP to take advantage of wat these heads can flow and the HSR can flow....

by the way the patriot heads are a really nice peice for there price and they flow really well!

Re: new patriot performance 195 aluminum heads/hsr combo!

hotcam is a good cam for a mild to medium 350. i wouldnt run that with a 383 but it could have potential to make near 450 crank hp tho. it will idle like stock and drive great since that cam is so mild.

most LT1's make around 330 whp with that cam depending on heads. a 383 should match that which is over 400 on crank.

If i was building a 383 with those heads which is probly the same combo i'd like to make lol, i'd go with a XFI 280 cam, a GM847 cam, or one of the Combination Motorsports cam. It wont be as much a daily driver but would have potential to make over 400whp and run 11's

I agree, its not the best cam. I think you'll make just shy of 450. What you will have is a load of torque.....it'll be a fast engine.

Re: new patriot performance 195 aluminum heads/hsr combo!

thanks guys that wat i was wondering... i kno the cam is mild but it was gona be a daily driver to school, gym etc so i didnt want anything to mild... watst he specs on that XFI cam? i was looking at there cams and was thinking of going with one of them but i didnt really like the 300$ price tag and the RPM range since with the hot cam thats good till 6000 with the hsr and the 383... my peak power will be around 5500. when i bought the hot cam i was gona go with vortecs or something else. would the car be streetable with the XFI cam... and would i still have enough vacume for brakes etc?

Re: new patriot performance 195 aluminum heads/hsr combo!

as far as i know i think a couple of ppl are running that cam and are having great success. its specs are

230/236 with .576/.570 lift with 1.6 rockers. its on a 113 LSA so it will idle nicely and still make good power. its rated powerband is 2000-6000. The AFR heads will like that extra lift too. A hotcam in a 383 i dont think will peak at 5500. it be close tho. i know it will peak near 5500 or so in a 350-355

That cam sounds like it would fit the combo nicely. I think you'd surpass your 450 hp goal with it too. But, it might be a little big if your looking for any kind of gas mileage which doesnt even make sense saying.....pretty much the same cam I have with 200cc RHS heads but with a 110 lsa. My engine builder said he makes similiar motors that dyno around 500 hp.

500hp with the hotcam or the xfi cam? if i build this thing im gona do it once so im not really sure about the cam now.... now i have a hotcam just sitting here lol. wat would the power differences be between the hot cam and XFI in my 383.... diff in hp and tq? the 2000-6000 power band would kill my highway... even if its a 383

ditch that hotcam and go bigger, no reason to put such a tiny tiny cam into a motor that will want to rev.

Re: new patriot performance 195 aluminum heads/hsr combo!

Look online at superchevy.com for the Twister motor. They used a hotcam and swapped to the xr282hr. The vortech heads are much smaller heads too. So you could expect your hp to be higher, but possibly a loss of peak tq.

Theres lots of hot cam dynos online, and many 500hp engine combos with very similiar heads. The cam is extremely important.......

Have you seen the TPI Shootout on here? Over 500hp with your intake, trick flow heads, and a comp xr288hr. Thats a 110 lsa though, and your idle will be high and rough.

Id go with a fuel injected cam to get a higher lsa to get a good idle.
You'll have a nice motor there if you pick your cam wisely, have fun dude.

i think that XFI 230/236 with good heads on a 383 should make 500hp on crank

In either SuperChevy or Car Craft they did an engine artical on a 383ci with 10.25:1comp, 200cc Dart Iron Eagle ported and polished heads, perfomer rpm and a 750cfm carb. Utilizing a XFI280 cam they managed 400rear wheel hp and torque. They managed to tick off a 11.30 with a 150-200hp shot of nitrous in a 3,600lb cars. The XFI280 has my vote!!!!!

With 400 at the wheels, that car should do 10's on a 150 shot, but agreed, the xfi has my vote
