he said that it is possible to mod them while the heads are on the car as long as the ports and every thing is well covered up!
he said some thing about grinding 5 com or some thing of them, i dont know!!!

Re: fitting 1205 size mini ram to l98 heads please

is it that the ports arent lining up right?

i did notice my HSR with 1205 sized gasket ports doesnt quite line up with my L98 iron heads. there is some mismatching there, where the L98 head surface sticks out into the flow path.

Its basically gasket matching the heads to the intake. you'd have to line up a 1205 gasket on the heads, and trace the inside of the gasket port location with a marker, and grind away at the head till all of the marker is gone and the head ports now match the gasket ports which now matches the intake port.

i'd fill the ports tight with paper towls as well as the lifter valley and get a vacuum cleaner/shopvac to suck away the shavings while your grinding away if you keep the heads on the car

i hope this helps and makes sense. and i hope its what the TPIS guy means. I wish i could done this to my car but i was in a hurry to get the car running for dyno day

Re: fitting 1205 size mini ram to l98 heads please

hi there orr89rocz,
how are ya mate!
thanks for your great reply and help!
well i havent got my 1205 size mini ram yet, but jim at tpis said the mini ram wont fit properly unless i do some grinding on the heads some where so i dint unders tand what, where, how to do this and why also.
next year i will be buying some afr 210 ported heads so at the moment i just want to get the engine back running again once i get the mini ram intake!
also i ahve a 6 speed zf gear box currently with a 3.45 ratio dana 44 rear end, what would be a good up grade rears to go with do you reackon please ?
i heard that 4.10 might be a bit high for street crusing/racing and 1 st gear would be pretty much useless, but 3.90/3.93 might be a better choice, what do you think please ?
i might have to ask tpis again what they mean by grinding heads/valve covers!
thanks alot for your time and help mate!
cheers
glen

Re: fitting 1205 size mini ram to l98 heads please

well i think with the new miniram power band, you'll want atleast 3.90 gears.

But if you plan on upgrading to 210 heads, you will need the miniram 1206 since the AFR210 heads feature a 1206 gasket/port size.
