fuel gauge

i have a '88 firebird w/ an automatic trans. and a V8 and cant figure out why my fuel gauge moves a lot. whenever i brake the needle goes up towards the 'F' and when i accel. it goes the other way. so i never can tell exactly how much fuel is in my car. can anyone tell me what the problem is and does anyone else have this problem??
thanks.

Re: fuel gauge

mine goes the other way, when i brake it goes towards empty and towards full when i gas it. it is just from the fuel moving around

if it stays at full all the time, check the ground on it. it is probably bad
