ZZ4 cam vs. LPE 219

these two seem to be very popular cams on this site...i have a non-ecm carbed 355 with 3.73 gears and a 5 speed and the zz4 cam. is the 219 a much bigger cam? is the jump worth the swap?

Re: ZZ4 cam vs. LPE 219

its a full 11 degrees more duration on the intake, which is really what you should be lookin' at. It will probably make another 20hp. You should look at the Comp XR276hr- 224/230 .502/.510, pulls hard to 58-6000. Could probably make another 30ish hp more than the zz4 and would be money well spent. Since it sounds like you want something mild and probably have stock heads, this is what I recommend. Otherwise, step up to the xr282hr- 230/236 .510/.520, pulls hard to 62-6400.

I see you actually have ZZ4 with the 113 aluminum head, go with XR282hr. You seem to have everthing to support....Even if it is a daily driver, I think you will still love it. And it would probably High 12's, or bottom 13's on a decent STREET tire, mid 12's on slicks.

The LPE 219 cam is a single pattern grind. I would not recommend using it unless you have heads with good exhaust flow numbers. Take a look at the LPE 74211. It has a duration of 211/219 @ .050. I ran this cam for awhile in my 350 and it was a very strong cam.

Re: ZZ4 cam vs. LPE 219

thanks, guys....great info! one more thing: is a switch to a solid roller cam for a street/strip car practical? i'm thinking i've already got a OE roller motor.....switching to a solid roller cam would really make my motor feel and sound like a true "muscle car"! any ideas on this? anyone running a mechanical roller cam? which one?
i'm searching 'cause my zz4 dynoed at 280 rwhp....and i want a true 300-350 rwhp........

I run a solid roller in my 406. You will need much more aggressive valve springs. I don't recommend using one on a daily driver. My car is occasional use only.
