how to get more power from a 305 tbi

i have a 1988 firebird coupe thats has a 305 tbi engine. ive looked up factory specs and that motor is supposed to have 170hp and 250 or 255 ftlbs and im thinking to my self isnt that a low power rating for a V8?? well is there any mods i can do to this engine to get it more power like above 200? with out spending lots of cash to do it? im not wanting to do a v8 swap i like this motor it sounds good runs good. so far this is wat ive done to this car. new exhaust " straight pipe no converter" flow master that came of a LS1 Transam ive had a shift kit installed and it does bark tires when going to second gear. the previous owner had head work done to it. i was thinking would high performance spark plugs and wires give it a little more power. what mods do you guys think would beef this motor up a lil bit?? thnx for your help

Start here...

then here...

and some of this...

maybe some of this too...

Its a place to start. I would recomend this one however...

And new heads REALLY wouldnt hurt. TBI heads arnt that wonderful in my understanding. I believe the flow numbers are available in the TBI section. Its really ugly. Summit has Vortec heads for like $600 shipped, add a manifold for $150 and carb for $400 and your good for alot more power.

Also the exhaust on our cars is horrible, get some headers AND y-pipe. And a good cat-back isnt bad to have either. I had a local shop build my cat back with a flowmaster 80 for $200.

Hope that helps!
