Engine sitting with no oil?
I recently had my car towed from kansas to Cali and the freaking idiots who moved it brought my car back to me with amissing dipstick and a leaking oil pan. So my poor camaro was flooding my garage floor with oil, tranny fluid and power steering fluid.
I drained all the fluids so it wouldnt leak anymore until I can get in there and see what the damage is. Will this be a problem if I let it sit for long period of time like months? My concern is the cam, will the oil on the cam come off it will be dry when i fire it up again? I dont want to wipe out a lobe.
what about the tranny? it's a 700R4. I drained the fluid from that too. Will that hurt it sitting dry? I dont know when I will get to it so it could be another couple of months. It's already been sitting for 8 months.
BTW: Dont ever ship your car! If they even think that it's a "hot rod" they will abuse the crap out of it. The guy was telling me stories about this corvette they shipped and what they were doing to it. He told me that they were racing it up and down the street. Friggin idiots!

The oil will drain off your cam into a puddle of oil in the oil pan, or onto your floor - not much difference there. Just make sure you don't crank it over until you're sure the pan is full again
Not sure about the rest, but I wouldn't be too worried. When you're ready to fire up the engine, remove the valve covers and pour oil over all the valve train, rather than just in you oil fill cap. This will make sure the oil gets on all the good stuff.
