Drove my car for the first time in 2 years +

WOW, I'm in love. Last time I drove the car was with the 305 TBI and 700r4. I got my new combo running halfway right this weekend and I drove it on saturday. Man, I'm in love with the T-56 and Centerforce DF clutch. Its going to take a little bit of getting used to but I'll manage. It seems to start to make power about 3000 rpm. I didn't really get on it at all considering the motor is brand new as well as the clutch. My plugs are still reading black with a little brownish color on the tip. I would accelorate up to 50 in third gear and let it drag back down in the rpm's to about 25. I really want to lay into this thing and see what it can do. I hope I'm at a 12.00 with it maybe high 11's. I'm just sooo happy right now. I had to adjust the secondary throttle blades for the transfer slot 3 different times to get it to idle right.

Now, my next thing, I am running a points style distributor with the Crane cams conversion kit. I run 22 degrees initial and it only gives me about 10-12 degrees of centrifical advance. I would like to bring my timing down and run more centrifical than 10. Nobody seems to know how to get more advance out of these types of distributors. It seems a majority is running HEI. I was working with what I have. If anyone has any insight on how to get more mechanical advance out of this thing, it would be great. I am running one light and one medium spring as of now. It seem to run pretty good. No bog off idle, but then again, I never went more than half throttle at a time.

I'm sooo happy. Thank you all.

My car was filled with mouse sh*t after 2 years, kudos on not storing it in a barn. I now don't have an interior.

RIGHT ON!!!!
Great feeling eh?
With an HEI i'd use a dremel to make the advance travel slots longer, but i've never set eyes on your style of dist, so i'm not sure how it works...?

I really don't think it'd be a good idea to lower your initial timing and lengthen your mechanical travel, with that cam you have. (I know i've said that to you before). If you do, you'll want to make sure you're running full vacuum for the vacuum advance.
I'd just hold the engine at 3000RPM and set it to 36* timing and lock it down, and enjoy. Maybe set it up for ~14* vacuum timing, ported.

With that big cam, idling will make the plugs pretty dark, it'll want to idle quite rich. (You set your idle mixture screws for max vacuum right?)
Either way, your plugs will only tell you what the mixture is for the few seconds before pulling them, so if you drive home, drive up your driveway at 1500RPM, then shut it off, you'll be reading "idle mixture" on your plugs.
Do a 2/3 to 3/4 throttle blast down a lonely road, up to 3rd gear say, then put it in neutral and kill the ignition. Let it coast down and pull over. Then pull a plug or two on the side of the road and read that.

I'd even put in a fresh plug in #1 and #3 say, then start it up, do the heavy throttle blast, then pull over and check. That's the only way you'll get an accurate reading on your plugs. Or buy a wideband O2 setup, i'm looking into that for myself as well...

Yea, definatley really exciting. So your saying i should have my car idle at 36 degrees as well? Or set the timing for what ever initial it takes to get to 36 and lock it down? It ran pretty darn good suprisingly. I'm going to register it tomorrow and drive it around a bunch. Damn that manual is fun.

Idling at 36* would work yea, (I think F-bird suggested you try that), but I was saying:
Or set the timing for what ever initial it takes to get to 36 and lock it down

It'll probably just result in you bumping up your initial 2-4* or so. You can close your throttle blades a bit more. Saves on fuel while idling at stop lights, etc etc.
