305 Engine problem

my stupid engine is giving me troubles.
its a 305 TBI.
it runs all sluggish.
like its not getting enough gas.
1st gear is like your driving in 3rd kinda.
when you just step on it.
it feels like your in to high of a gear and your barly moving and it slowly picks up speed and up around like 4000rmp. its very annoying when going up hills.
thing is reved up to almost 5k and barly makes it up a hill.

i replaced fuel filter. doesnt seem to solve it.
i was wondering if it was the injectors. or possibly one of the spark plug wires are pluged in enough?
i replaced plugs and wires as well.

im redoing the exhaust. so im running on it with like open headers.(way to loud!!!)
would that be another problem? im just throwing out possiblitlys.
its dark and im to tired to go play around with it at the moment.

anyone had the simmilar problem? if so how did you fix it?

Re: 305 Engine problem

it depends the friction disk is probably all you need if you dont really have the money for the whole kit... i think i payed 120 for a elcheapo kit with friction plate, pressure plate, and pilot bearing... but you could get away with just the friction plate about 60-70 US dollars dont know about canada

but for it to be actually worth just replacing the friction plate you need to do the job yourself as that will be the real savings labor will kill any savings if you have a shop do it and you have to take the entire transmission down and remove the pressure plate to get at the friction plate so if a shop is doing it you might as well just buy a clutch kit that way you have a entirly new clutch

Re: 305 Engine problem

oh ok thanks
ill probably do the clutch my self. i dont like other people working on my car lol. thats just me tho :P
i like to learn how to fix my car
ill probably buy a a clutch kit.
and do it over a weekend or something.
im also having an oil leak. im not to sure where tho.
its right by the tranny to. so im hoping the tranny isnt leaking. and just hoping its the oil pan seal or gasket is getting worn out.
but the tranny is coverd in oil tho. its kinda gross.

Re: 305 Engine problem

if your leaking oil at the rear of the engine like that replacing the clutch might not do you any good as a rear main oil leak will screw any new clutch you put in very fast
