Gas pedal went limp.
I was just about to goto the bank today and pay rent when i started my car, its carbed so i usually pump it 3 times then let it start, i pumped it, let it start then when i went to i put my foot on the gas and the thing went limp and took off. i had to reverse back by the side of my house. i tried turning it off and still limp. anyone know how to fix this? I would assume its the spring but i dont know where its located and how to put it back on.

Re: Gas pedal went limp.
If your throttle return spring broke, it should not be hard to find and repair. Be glad it broke when it did, you could have taken a bunch of people out with you. I would guess that you only had 1 spring, the older carbed cars had 2, 1 inside the other larger spring so when 1 broke you still had a back-up. Back to business, locate your carb and find the throttle linkage. It goes from the gas pedal through the firewall and connects to the carb./throttle linkage. Look on the drivers side of the carb. and locate the spring. If it is still there, remove what`s left of it and go down the the auto parts store and get the correct replacement. I assume the auto parts store will have a part number for it so it should not be a big hassle. You should get 2 springs, a smaller one inside of a larger one. My`88 Iroc has the linkage on the drivers side and I am assuming your car does too. Let me know how you do, someone else that knows about carbs on these cars may reply and know more than I do.
