305 + XE 268
I know that this has been beat to death but I haven't seen my exact combo yet. My L69 305 has L98 aluminum heads milled to 55cc chambers slight port & polish with the orange valve springs good to .520 lift, XE 256cam matching pushrods, lifters and magnum 1.52 rockers, complete MSD ignition with no vac advance dist, SLP tri y headers with 3" dump for the strip, Weiand 8000 intake with Holley 6210 spreadbore double pumper, Weiand alum water pump, Centerforce dual friction clutch, and 3.73 Auburn pro limite slip diff, no smog gear and only very moderate stree use. How will the XE 268 cam with the pro magnum lifters work with this combo? I am presently runnig 14.02-14.08 strip times and I amtrying to get 13.7-13.9 times, any hope of that?

it depends on a LOT of variables. like things like relative temperature, humidity and ALTITUDE. also, what are you running for a converter? gears? ect. i was running those aluminum l98 heads and a 280h cam when i went 12.31@108mph.

65panhed, that will be a great cam for your setup and should easily get you your objective. It will have a nice lopey sound (hopefully that is what you want).
The only suggestion I would make, try and find someone with a WB O2 sensor OR go to a dyno where they have a WB O2 sensor available. Try and re-jet so you are in the 12.6-12.8 range (even before you swap your cam) and try and recurve your spark to get max advance around 2,800-3,200 rpm.
Lastly, the Aluminum Vette heads don't need a lot of spark advance. On EFI engines 25-28* seems to be the usual max spark advance before detonation occurs.
But I love your choice of cam. It'll be a nice sounding 305.

I am running 14* initial advance with I believe 22* total and all chips on the table @about 2500 RPM Car runs great year around but smog laws are coming. so for now the 305 will do as it is good and tight, 350 4 bolt on engine stand pending rebuild. All parts will interchange. As noted in sig the gears are 3.73X2 Auburn pro on 275 x 50 X 15 BFG drag radials........Many thanx for the constructive comments,I do greatly appreciate it, keep them coming...............

Re: 305 + XE 268
I have the 268 cam in my 305, It is almost stock, heads, crank, rods and pistons are all stock. Put a .015 head gasket to get me to about 10.25 comp ratio. Only mods were old school holley street dominator (single plane), 750 holley dp (spare, and to big), and hedman longtubes. With the motor completly untuned (air/fuel gauge was peged on rich) the car went a best of 13.90 on a 100º day.

Re: 305 + XE 268
How'd you use stock heads, stock pistons, and get to 10.25:1 CR? They use a .015" gasket stock to get... What, 9.3:1 ?
65panhed, what elevation are you at? Are you spinning off the line? What 60'? You should be into the high 13's with your current setup I think. Something might be off. Check the AFR at WOT.
