starts, revs freely in park, wont run
After days of searching this site ive decided to ask.
I have a 91 camaro rs 305tbi/700r4.
It started all of the sudden one day. The car starts just fine, revs freely in park, doesnt trip, sputter or anything. put it in drive and it goes for about 20 feet and just dies. stop, put it back in park, same thing. revs fine but dies in another 20 or so feet.
ive replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel pump relay, the entire tbi unit and followed every vacuum line looking for leaks, nothing.
then i tried spark plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor. same thing.
im loosing my mind here, so if anyone has a good idea it would be much appericiated.

whats your car idling at when in park. I would mess with the idle first, if thats not the problem, you might have something wrong with the torque converter staying locked up

i thought the idle was factory set?
anyway a fairly camaro-savy friend of mine fingered the ecm as the problem, im going to replace that today and see what happens.

I had a similar problem with my ol' 305. I put a new alternator in cause I get the lifetime warranty ones. I took it in and said I wanted a new one, got it without a test of the old one. My car ran fine til I jumped back in it a week later, then same problem. That one test drive lead me to believe the alternator or wiring might be causing the problem.
Good luck, the bowtie gremlins don't like to leave
