Dies in the middle of running...

Alright, first time it died while it was running (I was not slowing down or speeding up, it just died on me). I couldn't start it back up. It turned over, it was plump full of gas, and the radio, and lights were all working. So after towing it home, I checked the plugs first of all. One of the spark plug wires must have been melted on the manifold, because you could easily see the cable part of the wire. I was testing if there was a spark when I grounded it, and turned over the engine, and it started right up. So I replaced the wire, but since they didn't have the correct length, I had to settle for a around 4 inches smaller. So I was driving down the freeway, going around 75 when i look at my rpms and notice 0. I quickly pulled over. It wouldn't start again. I let it sat for 5 minutes or so, making a few phone calls. I figured I'ed pop the hood and check for anything that was missing, or if anything was loose. All the spark plug wires were on tight and everything seemed fine. I decided I'ed try turning over the engine again, and bam, started right up and I made it home fine. However, this scares me, as I don't know what it could be.

Also, there is an "OFF" button to the left of my back glass button on my dash, that looks like it should turn off the defrost. Once I hit this off button, it completely shuts off my car. I doubt that this off button is for my engine...

Diagram:
(OFF - Defrost - - - Back Glass)

Also, lately I have noticed the fuel gauge shutting off (Completely falling to the right) and then coming back on.

Any Ideas?

well the fuel gauge doing that would seem as though there is a loose connection there...my personal diagnosis........the wire to your fuel pump is corroding...i am no mechanic but that is what i think because your electronic fuel gauge is directly connected to your fuel pump...i dont know how you would go about testing this...but it is my personal diagnosis

okay you need to test your coil...and JUST REPLACE your ignition module... dont bother testing it to many times they will pass cold and fail when hot or even pass when just warm...

as for the "OFF" botton it could be just that... you would need to trace the wires to find out what it actually does...

sometimes with bigger cams they require alot of intial timing advance... a stock starter wont handle it...so people will sometime wire up a ignition kill switch so they can get the engine turning before the ignition starts firing then BLAMO will fire right up...

not saying that is what or why you might have that... it could have been some punk kid thinking he was the ****

Re: Dies in the middle of running...

So, an ignition module is forsurely what it is...It did it to me again this morning, while I was driving. I let it sat for about a minute, jiggled the spark plug wire, and it started right up. I will buy a new ignition module today.

Thanks

i am not saying that it isnt the ignition module, but if your gas gauge is coming up all the way to OVER FULL, then that means there is a bad connection there, your tank should realistically never read over full, if it does, that means that you are getting a bad connection, if it reads OVER FULL all the time then that means that there is no connection there at all
