i have a 88 firebird with the 350 TPI and did a complete rebuild.. but now i forget what wire goes to where? i have 2 red wires (in cab powere i think ) and a thick Purple wire and a amall black wire. can any one help me with where each of these go?

 

It should be pretty straightforward. Big wires go on the big terminal, the little wire goes on the little terminal.

 

guess i should have posted whole story... i got the car, and it was a rig and a half, the harness that goes to the starter has no termanals at all.. just a bunch of cut wires. that and i tried big to big and small to small and no luck when the key is turned. i can how ever "hard wire"the starter to a push button and it begins to crank the enigine. but if i use the key... nothing. that is why i need to know what wire goes where, ive never seena starter with more that 3 wires

 

Only one small wire goes to the solenoid, that one should have +12v on it when you turn the key.

 

ok, ill try that.. are there any other componets jumped off of the starter?

 

The battery stud on the starter is used as a distributon point for a couple of things.

 

I am new to the forums and i'm in your situation but mine has three wires that i have no clue to where they go. turned the key no go went to look at the starter there was a wire loom hanging down which contained 3 wire in it,purple, black, and orange with a black stripe? i have no clue its my first camaro too. there are three total terminals 2 out of the three have wires hooked up already. big post has red cables and the other terminal marked with R has a wire hooked up but the 3rd terminal marked S has nothing. Help me too!

 

The third marked S is the terminal for +12 Volt to activate the starter
