Valve springs, stock cam and heads

I have to replace my valve stem seals so I figure while I'm in there I may as well toss the springs for some new ones. I have no idea what condition the current springs are in and I'd like to get some new springs that are better than factory issued and lighten my valvetrain a little while I'm there if possible. Do they make an appropriate beehive for puny cams? Probably not eh?

Its a 91 LB9, everything is stock. Has the 'better' cam.

Ok...

Looks like I'll go with the #26981, and #787 retainer.
$305 or $65.. yea, I'll go with the #787 retainer over the #788 retainer.

That would be a nice choice, but still a big pricey and unnecessary for a stock roller cam. The standard non-behive 981 spring is already a decent upgrade over stock by itself. Likewise, no machining required and you can reuse your stock retainers. I've used them many times with mild flat tappet performance cams and stock rollers like in your LB9 with good results. Revs over 5000 come much easier with them than with worn out stock springs.

Re: Valve springs, stock cam and heads

I have a set of those laying around somewhere (including retainers), along with some roller tip rockers I cant use unless I put in some screw ins and guideplates (that I also have laying around).

Yea, 180 bucks plus retainers at 65 vs free... still think im gonna do it.

Oh its not totally stock, I am pushing 16psi down its throat.

Chris, get ahold of me at Manley and I can get you some 22410's and 23652 +050" retainers.
