How do I rig a heated O2 sensor?
How do I replace my single wire O2 sensor with a heated 3 wire? Search seems to be down, so advice would be appreciated.
Also, what part would I ask for at the parts house?
Thanks

If you want to go one step further, tap into the fuel pump relay so that it only has power when the fuel pump is energized.

Ya don't want the heated O2 to be heated all the time. Its only there to preheat the thing so it reacher proper temp faster [almost instantly] so the car don't hafta run in loop mode till it heats up normaly.
Ya know when your 3rd gen does that funny rev up n down on its own till warm. Wecome to loop mode as it waits for the O2 to heat up enough to send a proper signal. Why they are so close to the engine, it need heat to read right.
Would probably burn it out if left on all the time. Unless you had it moved to a "colder" spot where a regular O2 would never heat up enough.
Id still put a good fuse on that line, if it gets to hot, it should make enough resistance to pop it.

So I just go into autozone and ask the kid for a universal three wire? No specific application?
Does the advantage of the three wire outweigh the hassle of it burning itself out as Gumby mentions.
I've got headers, by the way.

You can get a connector pigtail from www.eficonnection.com

Here's the EASIEST one to use.
http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...pe=291&PTSet=A
You cut the pigtail off of your existing O2 sensor, and use that; then you add power and ground wires. Ground to the engine block, get the power from the fuel pump relay.

Might be the same one as what sofa just mentioned, but I got a "1987 Ford F150 oxygen sensor, with the 302 engine".
And got a 3 wire one for $60.

Got a universal three wire and rigged it in. Between that and unplugging my IAC, the car is idleling and running MUCH better.
